National Federation of Demolition Contractors NFDC
The National Federation of Demolition Contractors (NFDC) is a UK trade association for professional demolition contractors. The organisation’s origins go back to the Second World War when demolition experts were called upon to safely take down structures that had been compromised through bombing. These collaborative efforts led to the formation of the NFDC in 1941.
With more than 140 members, the trade association addresses professional standards and offers accreditation through its Site Audit Scheme. Its members are involved in up to 80% of UK demolition works.
To support its members, NFDC offers standard and specialised training sessions (which are required within the profession) through its partner, the National Demolition Training Group (NDTG). It provides educational tools on the use of scaffolding in the demolition industry and case study examples of demolition projects.
The organisation provides access to technical information, guidance notes, codes of practice and other forms of documentation for its members. It also offers technical advice. Support on recycling and waste management for the demolition industry is available through its Demolition Refurbishment Information Data Sheets (DRIDS) resource, which was developed in response to the direct impact that modern building materials have on the waste stream.
